What is Adsence?
Adsence is Google’s online advertising program. It makes it easy for you to display adverts on your website and quickly start making money from them. Adsence brings Advertisers (anyone from Microsoft to your local pet shop) and Publishers (potentially anyone with a website) together.
^ TOPWhat do I need?
You need one of two things: either a website or a gap in the market!
If you already have your own website then you can start right away - you could potentially be making money after just an hour or two of your time! Feel free to skip to the next section. Or:
If you don’t have a website of your own, then it’s surprisingly easy to create one! This isn’t as daunting as it sounds and you don’t need to be a qualified web designer either. Using online tools you can create a web site as easily as creating a word document or sending an email. All you need is a subject to write about.
You must decide what information you can offer the world, whether it’s “How to repair your Rover 200” or “How to look after your pet cat” someone else is bound to be interested in your expertise and will want to visit your website.
Once you’ve decided your subject you’ll need to register your domain name. I always use a company called 123-reg to register my domain names - you can use the domain search box below to see if your name is available. Try getting some key words in the domain like www.rover200mechanics.co.uk or www.careformycat.com
After you’ve decided your name you can sign up for “Instant Site”, this allows you to easily and painlessly create your website without any previous web design knowledge!
I’d recommend reading the rest of this article before creating your site so you have a complete understanding while making your site. However, if you’ve definitely decided on your domain name, get it now before someone else does!
^ TOPWhy use Adsence instead of advertising program x <insert ad company here>?
There are other services on the internet that can supply advertising for your website, but in my opinion Google Adsence is by far the best. Your Google Adsence ads are specifically targeted at your websites audience. Relevant ads mean that more visitors are likely to click your ads, and visitors are likely to appreciate the ads instead of finding them annoying.
^ TOPHow to apply
You must apply to Google for an adsence account. If you have a Google Mail account you can use this email address to apply, otherwise you’ll need to sign up for a Google Account.
Signing up is very easy. You’ll need to give Google some details such as your name and address (so that they can pay you your earnings!) and details of your website. Someone from Google will then personally check that your site exists and is more than just “under construction” before approving your account. This normally takes about 24 hours.
^ TOPWhat formats of ad can I show?
Once you’re set up you can choose between many different formats of ad including text links, images banners, animated flash banners or even videos!
^ TOPHow much will I make £££ ?
This depends on many factors including how popular your website is, how well placed your adverts are, and how appealing your ads are to your visitors. Google turns over billions of pounds a year through it’s Adsence network and some people are making millions from Adsence advertising. It’s far to early to be thinking on that scale, but in my experience you should expect about 10p per visitor. That means that if you get about 50 visitors a day to your website, you should expect about £2000 profit a year. The more websites you make, the more profit you could potentially make. (Note, this is my own experience – you might make more or less from your visitors)
